In this remake of the cult classic, a young couple return to the wife's Mississippi home so that her husband can finish writing a movie script about the Battle of Stalingrad.

The film stars James Marsden, Kate Bosworth and Alexander  Skarsgard.

As the movie begins, Bosworth and Skarsgard arrive in this quaint southern town. They stop in a local bar and see Marsden and a number of his friends. It is obvious that Marsden and Bosworth had a thing going in the past when she was the head cheerleader and he was a star football player in town.

Straw Dogs refers to an old Chinese custom that brave people were admired during the heat of the battle but when the battle was over and the people had served their time, they are nothing but a straw dog, a person of little value.

On the night of the opening night of football there is a confrontation where Bosworth and Skarsgard want to protect a man of special needs. He may have committed a crime but Bosworth and Skarsgard can't just turn him over to the drunken rowdies. The men and their old coach attack the house and an ultra violent scene evolves.

The acting is well done but some of Bosworth's actions that seemed to egg the men on, were unexplainable.

The movie's extreme violence and sexual scenes would be too intense for most viewers.
The dogs of night will have you for dinner.
