Often has Dreamworks animation been called the ‘poor man’s Pixar’ and yet, these days, even Pixar has their misses. Well, agree with me or not, Dreamworks has given Pixar its much needed competition, and sporting spectacular animation and a good sense of humor, “The Croods” is another exercise that is familiar and yet, it gives its viewers a lot of things to like about it.
The film also has themes that carries some needed message about ‘living life’. While not exactly polished and entertaining as “How To Train Your Dragon”, adults and kids can find something to enjoy in this film. The slapstick humor and colorful animation is just enjoyable, and the voice acting led by Nicholas Cage, Emma Stone and Ryan Reynolds speak a lot for its screenplay.
This is a family movie and so it has its familiar set of rules and formula. Yes, the pacing may be off a little, but it is a cute film. Nothing special but certainly is hilarious in its own right. Recommended. [3 ½ Out of 5 Stars]
