WONDERFULLY HORRIBLE
      976-EVIL      This is such a wonderfully entertaining and wonderfully 80's flick that I have to watch it every October. Directed by the great Robert Englund and written by Brian Helgeland this has always been a fav of mine. Ever since it has been released it has been a stable on late night showings especially during October. Directed by Freddy Kruger, 976-EVIL, mildly entertaining though it is, hinges on a profound misunderstanding of irony.      Spike, who may or may not have flunked out of school, and whom I may or may not find strangely attractive, lives with his loser cousin Hoax and his crazy fundamentalist Aunt*. 976-EVIL is a bad movie that came out during the eighties horror movie explosion. This was also Robert Englund's first attempt at making a movie. He took a topical theme and tried to add a horror spin to it. But all you got was a badly directed and acted film with a creepy villain trying to be a second rate Freddy Krueger (i.e. spouting off very bad one liners) and mugging for the camera.      A no good rascal (Spike) who lives with a strange aunt her nerdy kid is extremely bored. …
