Alien Nation is one of those films that really defies the system of classification that we have in play to cover most motion picture genres. In summaries and reviews it would be easy to pick out staple concepts such as alien invasion, advanced technology and genetically altered slave trading to peg it as definitive science fiction. This is a great buddy cop flick with a sci-fi element. There are aliens but they are mostly used as a device in this movie for commentary on immigrants' effect on the job market and for other topics throughout the other Alien Nation movies and TV shows. A bit formulaic, but a fun movie though and James Caan is great.
