Body Snatchers was another one of Abel Ferrara's mainstream films. After Bad Lieutenant he moved on to this film after the failure of production of the big Hollywood remake of Yojimbo (it would later be directed by Walter Hill under the title Last Man Standing). He would later helm another "mainstream" film Dangerous Game. Body Snatchers was based upon a screenplay written by Larry Cohen and re-written by Stuart Gordon, Nicholas St. John and Abel Ferrara.

The film takes place on a military base in the deep south. A young army brat (Gabrielle Anwar) witnesses first hand the presence of some alien invaders who want to take over the Earth and populate it with their own. She notices how everyone is starting to change but it's hard for her to notice at first because how dehumanizing the military is in the first place. Can the young lady and her soldier boyfriend save the planet from doom? Forest Whitaker, R. Lee Ermney, Meg Tilly and Billy Wirth co-star.

If you have seen the first two films then you know the story. Abel Ferrara makes this film even darker than the other two. He leaves his mark all over the place. The cinematography is excellent and is filled with moody earth tones and dark shadows. If you're a fan of the first two films or an Abel Ferrara fan then I would highly recommend this movie. Others need not apply.
