Heart-Warming Story with a Message...

If you are reading reviews you are interested in seeing the movie. You are also probably aware that the same guys who brought Fireproof produced and wrote Courageous. The Kendricks use their films to entertain, and share the importance of a relationship with God. If you hate movies with messages or a moral, you aren’t going to love this one, no matter how great the message, or the movie is.

Films that are lower budget often look it. And films with a Christian theme are often cheesy. The Kendricks do a good job trying to avoid both of these pitfalls. The film contains a trace of each, but the storyline, the characters and the message help to make those details fall into the background.

The message within the film is a convicting and clear call to be a man, a father, as God designed. I grew to care about the characters. The moments of intense emotion were broken with humor and feel good glimpses. Pacing was good with the movie clipping along and avoiding drag. There are even tense subplots to make for a few moments where I was on the edge of my seat. Overall, the story is a sad one tinged with lots of hope. Do make sure you have tissues, I didn't and I definitely needed them.
