I have to be honest in saying that Drop Dead Gorgeous is one of my favorite movies, and my go to pick-me-up movie when I need a solid laugh. This mocumentary follows small town Minnesota beauty queens on their quest to be number one. This satirical production follows the pageant queens, as well as their families and fellow town citizens, giving insight into the pageants inner workings. The crew follows Amber Atkins (Kirsten Dunst), as well as Becky Leeman (Denise Richards) more closely, as they are the top two competitors and enemies, as they struggle and prepare themselves for their golden opportunity out of Mount Rose, Minnesota. Amber, a talented yet less priveledged girl living in a trailer park with her brash mother, is looking for her ticket out of town, in an attempt at following in the footsteps of her idol, Diane Sawyer. Becky's parents however own a furniture company, along with most of the town. Becky's mother, Gladys Leeman (Kristie Allie) is also the pageant coordinator, who will stop at nothing for Becky's triumph. As the movie continues, mysterious accidents and fatalities occur among the pageant participants. Despite this, the film maintains its hilarious satirical demeanor, even the accents are enough to make you laugh. The potrayl of these dysfunctional, naive, and not-so-talented young women and their families is worth watching.
