Pros: Outstanding performance by Claire Danes; good supporting cast.     Cons: Stock film     The Bottom Line: There is nothing earth-shatteringly new about what transpires in Evening, but it appealed to me because it trod upon (ocean front) ground I know well.     Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot. I like Clair Danes, a lot.  She is not a beauty in the classic sense, but there is something undeniably …

Pros: ...     Cons: ...     The Bottom Line:   "In the evening, When the day is done   I'm looking for a woman, but the girl don't come"  ~Led Zeppelin         I'd rather scrape paint off the walls with my fingernails than sit through another viewing of Evening. And with those type films, we would expect that all emotion would be dissected and revealed down to the most subtle of reactions.    If you are still reading this review, chances are you dig that kind of movie. Do you love the exploration of character and delving into human relationships? Dysfunction adds to the mix, and the horrified …

Criticism of the film EVENING, based on the novel by Susan Minot and adapted for the screen by Minot and Michael Cunningham, has been harsh, so harsh that it may have discouraged many viewers from giving the film a try. The primary criticism has centered on the fact that very little happens in this film about a dying woman's fretting over a mistake she made one summer in her youth, that famous actors were given very minor roles, that the entire production was over-hyped, etc. For this viewer, seeing …
