Let’s talk about remakes; in my opinion remakes should only be made if maybe a) to expand on the original’s premise b) to make an update to cultural and period differences from the time the original film was made and c) to pay tribute to the original film. One cannot justify a remake unless it meets these standards for me.      Well, the Swedish vampire film directed by Tomas Alfredson “Let The Right One In” (2008) was a blockbuster hit internationally; …

*** out of ****     Some films do not need remakes. Actually, a LOT of films do not need remakes. Most of these films are indeed horror films; and these are the films that get re-hashings from America whether we particularly like the concept or not. The truth is that a Hollywood horror remake comes around AT LEAST twice a year. Such a film probably comes around even more often than that. But you know what; none of them are ever good. That is what I've always thought, and that's …

The Swedish film LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (based on the Swedish novel of the same name) was on my top ten list last year. It was creepy, heartbreaking, violent, original, stylish & very well acted. It tells the story of a deeply lonely young boy, bullied at school and torn between his divorced parents. At 12, he's right on the cusp of young manhood...but still he is lagging slightly behind his classmates and thus is a friendless target for some pretty significant abuse. A new tenant moves into …

This is not the right one.
LET ME IN Written by Matt Reeves and John Ajvide Lindqvist Directed by Matt Reeves Starring Kodi Smit-McPhee, Chloe Grace Moretz, Richard Jenkins and Elias Koteas      Abby: Just so you know, I can’t be your friend.    I have a reasonable amount of sympathy for Matt Reeves, the director of LET ME IN.  He made a perfectly adequate and genuinely authentic remake of Swedish filmmaker, Tomas Alfredson’s LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, but there was no way for …

A Tormented Boy Befriends a Lonely Vampire
“Let Me In” is every bit as unnerving, absorbing, tragic, touching, and compelling as “Let the Right One In,” the 2008 Swedish horror film on which it’s based. This is remarkable given all the ways it could have gone wrong, which is really an underhanded way of saying all the ways it could have been Americanized. The original film, and the novel on which it was based, was a vampire story in the strictest sense, but is wasn’t a two-hour ordeal of tired vampire …

An enormous amount of speculation surrounded the sci-fi horror film Cloverfield, crafted by new comer Matt Reeves and the legendary JJ Abrams, mostly concerning what exactly the film was about, what the Cloverfield Monster looked like, and how the end product was going to turn out. The film is now a cult classic for some and still a massive headache for others thanks to its frantic shooting style. Two years later the young filmmaker has tackled another huge project, a …

Matt Reeves take on the norwegian movie "Let the Right One In" it's more than decent but it doesn't hold the same powerful deliverance of the original. The story has also changes within the complexity of the characters and the approach of the relationship between Owen and Abby. Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee) is a young and lonely boy that is always bullied at school and he is searching for both encouragement and a friend. He finds one in this odd girl named Abby …

Let Me In is the US remake of Let the Right One In, a creepy and very good Swedish vampire movie. I'm a little worried that it's going to get ruined. Here's the first trailer: http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1810048892/video/21085609
