Ms Hathaway needs 100 cc's of love and cut down on your one night stands
Not long ago when I talked about "The Proposal" I said that if I could find a "rom com" that took a few more chances and had a few more surprises I could like it a little more.  Love and Other Drugs wins that nomination for toning down it's fluff and throwing in a curve ball or two.  It may not be as funny as it's contemporaries but makes up for it in story.      Jake Gyllenhaal is Jamie a smart ladies man who is lacking direction in his …

Life goes on... with or without Viagra!
It turns out that I like this movie quite a great deal. Quite uncharacteristically. It's not that it's a comedy, drama or even melodrama. It turns out to be quite a realistic and touching movie. It's a movie where you don't expect any good out of it from the beginning. Afterall, if people indulged in sex as much as these two characters did and live life as they did, ie steering out of serious relationship and love, what can anyone expect out of them?         …

Sometimes life can feel a little unbalanced as you try and find just that, balance. Through the harder times that you may face people will look for ways to avoid thinking of the turmoil you may face using laughter and maybe if you’re lucky the comfort of another person if only for a little while. There are a lot of people out there who will critique this movie for being unbalanced. Considering the material, I think that is exactly why I liked Love and Other Drugs.      …

The High Isn't Worth the Comedown
LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS   Written by Charles Randolph, Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz   Directed by Edward Zwick   Starring Jack Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway and Oliver Platt       Jamie Randall: You’re my little blue pill.       Ordinarily, I would say that any film that starts with The Spin Doctors’ “Two Princes” is destined to be a disaster.  LOVE AND OTHER DRUGS takes place is 1996 though …

4 stars: Keeping it simple is not as easy as it seems
I have an old saying when it comes to love, Love can be like a roller coaster it has its ups and it is down its twist and its turns its upside downs and its loop-de-loops. Nothing is ever simple or easy when it comes to love it is an on going battle that you have to fight to stay in everyday even when you are not fighting it feels like you are. You feel like you are trapped in a corner and there is a wild lion creeping in on you about to devour every fiber of your being. That is what …

There's a general problem I have with Hollywood's so-called "romantic comedies". They tend to try to hard to make audiences laugh by being juvenile and predictably raunchy thus failing to be truly comedic. Then they seem to confuse lust with love and figure that in order for two people to be romantic on screen they have to be physically attractive and preferably white and upper middle class. Where the problem sets in is that white upper middle class people are boring and they are …

I might be the only serious guy around here who actually enjoyed this flick. Love and Other Drugs directed by Edward Zwick, the guy behind movies like Blood Diamond, captured my attention mainly because of the chosen actors for the leading roles and in an ultimate desperate moment, because of the great reaction from the critics concerning the actual portrayals of the two leading actors.      Of course this movie it's a love story, not like Love Story though but …

15 - 112mins - Comedy/Drama/Romance - 29th December 2010 In general I fit the stereotypical male movie goer- guns = good, action = good, comedy = good, romance = long as it combines a lot of guns and action and so it was with a bit of trepidation that I approached Love And Other Drugs which I had down as a bit of a romcom. This especially looks the case if you view the short trailer I left at the end on my previous article. The movie is about Jamie (Jake Gyllenhaal) who is a bit an all …

Calling “Love and Other Drugs” a romantic comedy or a “chick flick” wouldn’t be accurate at all. It is funny with some doses of twisted humor and it is a story about love and how it sneaks up on us at times. However, it would be safe to say that the film is a guy’s “chick flick“. It is set in the time before and during the popularity of Viagra; it is a story about a womanizing guy and a young woman stricken with Parkinson’s disease in its first …

I was surprised at how much I like this movie at the end of it. It's not made in heaven love story nor is it one that makes the audience feels good about themselves. Yet, it is one with lots of layering to love and one that is realistic and yet hopeful enough for viewers to go home with lots to think about! Not many movies offer such an even combination of reality, humor, hope and love!

Charming, sexy, smart, engaging and fast paced "Love and Other Drugs" is one of the best romantic dramedies to come out of the Hollywood work mill in the better part of twenty-years. This quick witted and ever so enthralling romance film is designed specifically to appeal to older audiences instead of the teenage Twilight” generation this is one of 2010's most enjoyable and entertaining films. A magical,  warm, sexy romantic dramedy that works both as a drama and an engaging …
