BARE BUTTS AND TA-TA'S

Pros: Hold on, I'm thinking

Cons: ......

Should this movie been rated X? Durn near! I never saw so many well toned bare butts and artificial ta-ta's in one movie without having to slip quarters in the slot! Eric Roberts plays Dr. Ian Burton, studying the rare effects of psychic phenomenon, mainly sensory perceptions. His latest student Lila (Kari Wuhrer), has a strange talent of absorbing sensations from objects relating to past lives.

Roberts was the former lover/teacher of a coed (Carrie Reiner) and is accused of her murder. His purported goal with Lila is to have her use her psychic skills to help find the killer and relieve the heat from him. Unfortunately Lila becomes enamored with Roberts and has trouble disassociating herself from what she sees in her dreams and what is happening in her real life. In addition, she begins to take on characterizations of the dead Reiner woman.

The investigating detective of the Reiner case, played by Ron Perlman, dogs Lila constantly trying to get her to realize she is becoming embroiled in more than she can handle. Throw in the campus ‘homonger, Ed Begley, Jr. (a tough one to believe, sorry) who adds even more confusion to Lila's identity crisis and the snoopy neighbor, Paul LeMat, who seems to be dropping in without any type of invitation, also accused of the murder.

As the story plays out, Lila assumes more and more of Carrie Reiner's identity - seeing things that have happened in the past between Roberts and Carrie, leading her to believe even more that Roberts is the campus killer. Threading throughout the entire movie is Roberts new relationship with fellow professor, Claire Stansfield, who supplies his alibis for the campus murders.

I give this movie one star for the ability to fool me about who the killer was until the ending. In my book this always merits something. As far as acting abilities, I probably have to throw in a star for some of the phoniest sex scenes I have ever seen! Plenty of well placed "oh's", "ah's" and "um's" but I really have to take the star back because the story line really sucked wind! What a great idea this would be, the ability to gain this prospective if the trait was really true, but unfortunately the writer portrays it in such a campy light you just have to let it pass you by.

Perlman was darn near a bumbling policeman and was poorly cast in this role; Begley as the campus peeping tom just doesn't make it - come on folks! Roberts plays off his decent good looks and is naked in as many scenes as possible, with as many women as possible, as to merit a minus star in my book (although he DOES have a nice butt). Kari Wuhrer just doesn't have the power to pull this film together, rather gives it a little kids flair cause she is just so cutesy in the part - you can just see those pleated skirts and knee socks!

I guess the only real merit to the film is the constant erotic overtones tossed in with the suspense of a whodunit. You certainly don't get too bored because you are trying to figure out just who the bad guy is and you are also spending a lot of time trying to figure out just who Roberts will bed next!
