If E. Elias Merhige and ten other filmmakers who shared his devotion to quality, attention to detail and reverence for the medium were granted a fraction of the attention, funds and freedom that spoiled, popular hacks like Bay, Ratner and Abrams enjoy, they'd surely generate enough good films to elevate American cinema to a level it hasn't reached in over thirty years.
