Pros: Great idea carried out very well      Cons: Not for casual readers, still relies on tortured artist trope      The Bottom Line: If the journey of a story is more important than the end--watch. If not, you will probably be bored.      Stone Reader is a very easy film to misunderstand. It is so fiercely made for two types of people that those outside of it will find it dull as dishwater. When I purchased this film, I bought The Stones of Summer as well, with the intention of reading the book first. Like so many others--and like Moskowitz himself, at first--I couldn't get beyond the first fifty pages. At least, not yet; I will go back to it eventually. But I was eager to view the film, so I set aside a time to sit down with a glass of iced tea and an open mind. I love this film. Forgive me if I state the obvious here; the film is a documentary.
