was a great noir debut about misunderstanding identity.  Raising Arizona was a screwball comedy about stealing an identity.  Miller's Crossing was a deep gangster movie about discovering identity ("Nobody knows anybody. Not that well")  Barton Fink was a Hollywood insiders movie about understanding your own identity.  The Hudsucker Proxy was a fast-talking dialogue driven 1930s comedy about keeping your identity in the face of all odds against.    Fargo …

Dude, the chinaman is not the issue here...
The Coen Brothers. Jeff Bridges. Steve Buscemi. John Goodman. Julianne Moore. Sam god-damn Elliot. Seriously – what more can you ask for in a film?      From start to finish, the Coen Brother’s “The Big Lebowski” is going to take you on a wild journey through the depths of the local bowling alley to confrontations with German nihilists and pornography tycoons to random instances of urination – this movie has it all.      I originally …

Lebowski Is Here To Stay
When I first saw this movie I was fairly young, enough so that I didn't really get the humor. But, only now after watching it again can I really see how great a movie this is, from fever dreams about bowling with the gods to scattering of "Donny's" ashes flying back into Jeff Bridges face, this is a funny movie. But, then again, can you expect anything less from the Coen brothers? The plot is great, the acting is quirky but funny, and direction just as good.      …

This movie is a Coen Brother classic. It follows a man known as "The Dude" through a series of mishaps that all happen because his real name happens to be Mr. Lebowski. In classic Coen brothers style, There are plenty of intertwining plot lines that require you to have a flow chart ready, but once again, all is explained in the end. This movie is a prime example of the videography that I have come to associate with The Coen Brothers. But i will say, it isn't for everyone. It can be …

I have watched the movie more times than I can remember and it remains sharp and funny. Don't watch it cut for TV, it just doesn't make sense.

Stoner bowler and his odd friends weave through the tapestry of LA and meet all sorts of different folks. Abandon all hope of needing an important story and enjoy the ride.

An American classic. I'd love to see a sequel. Donnie could come back in flashback.

This movie has been my favorite since I have originally seen it. It includes wonderful actors, brilliant dialogue, and a film-noir experience in an American comedy movie. The dude is the man of the times- never stepping out of his boundaries, but always abiding by the things life throws at him. Despite his unwillingness to get involved with the money scheme that this movie revolves around, his finesse in dealing with the various players, as well as his own friend Walter, is undeniable. The stoic …

We're going on a safari, through the murky smog and urban jungle of LA to view the strange specimens
You better not come into this movie hoping for a plot.  The idea of the movie is to see our hero truck around LA and witness a society that is seemingly sober but could be even more loaded then our stoner guide is.      Jeffrey Lebowski is "The Dude" he bowls on a bowling team, writes post dated checks for 99 cents, meditates and spends his days hanging out and getting high.  One day some toughs wanting money break into his house and before they leave …

Classic poster, thin paper, good printing. But this image, absolutely cool beyond imagination. The size the color, the tag line; excellent. Right across the room is the Almost Famous sunglasses picture. They are great posters looking at eachother, I'm not sure which one wins. Almost Famous - Movie Poster - 27 x 40.

I guess I don't need to say much about the movie.   Apart from being my favorite movie with superb acting of the entire cast (including the dog and the toe) and the incredible dumb and hilarious dialogue which still manages to blow my socks off everytime I watch the movie, this version truly is a must have.   No matter which character you (try to) analyze, they are all insane and ingenious, funny and inspiring (except of course the nihilists...)  The HD DVD transfer …

To me, the greatest thing about the Coen brothers is how vastly different each of their films is. For example, after making the dark, dramatic "Fargo", they made this film - "The Big Lebowski", a comedy about a stoner who gets his rug stolen. What other filmmakers would make such a leap from film to film, and continuing doing so through all of their films? Only the Coen brothers.    "The Big Lebowski" stars Jeff Bridges as Jeffrey Lebowski, an unemployed man known to everyone …

Why do so few films develop a cult following which increases in number and intensity each year? For example, The Big Lebowski. Can you think of another film which has an annual festival in its sole honor? (It was held this year in Louisville.) I was mulling about this as I recently saw it again. Much funnier this time. For me, the same is true of Young Frankenstein. Films never change but we do. So how have I changed? If The Big Lebowski is even funnier the next time, what does that reveal about …
