Family Stone is kind of an odd movie. It's a drama about a messed up family, but it's actually pretty funny and entertaining. It has just enough drama and heartache to feel real, but enough comedy to make it fun and uplifting. It's definitely a good movie to watch if you're stressed out by your own family gatherings over Christmas. It shows that things could always get worse.

From the commercials, The Family Stone seemed like your typical romantic type movie. However, that was definitely not the case. The movie, which chronicles the holiday season with the Stone family, profiles many issues that one can relate to including difficulties with in laws, terminal disease, and general dysfunction within the family unit. Thomas Bezucha ('Big Eden') is a writer/director willing to address social issues in a setting where the issues become secondary to his characters.
