Edgar Allan Poe was one of the best known American writers of this modern age and was often considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre. Edgar Allen Poe did not have a very happy life. He was met with tragedy throughout his life. He was found gravely ill in Baltimore, Maryland dressed in clothes not his own and spouting incomprehensible phrases.
