The first time I watched this movie was way back in highschool (about 15 years ago or so) when it was showing on TNT. Being that I never heard of this movie before at the time, I had the lowest expectation for it possible. But after watching it, I'd have to say it is the best non-action movie ever!!! This is just one of those films in which everything comes together--great screenplay (based on a great novella), great performances by Tim Robbins (my hero) and Morgan Freeman (my ultra-hero). Freeman's narration fills in some of the nice passages from the book--a nice touch which makes this movie all the better.

Gees, I'm going to get caned for saying this, aren't I.The Shawshank Redemption has always been pegged as a great movie - clearly the Amazon.com readership thinks so - and I finally got round to seeing it last night.It's definitely a engaging film; beautifully shot, well enough acted and it resolves itself quite nicely (if not a little obviously - the "twist" was so predictable it may as well have been Chubby Checker).
