Threads is a truly harrowing film. I saw this film whilst I was in high school and it has left a deep impression within my psyche. I have never seen such a depressing and graphic film before or after. The gritty realism makes The Day After seem like an afternoon special. A must see for any one who doesn't comprehend the devastating effects of a thermonuclear war. A nice update to the still effective The War Game.

The movie follow several characters before and after a thermonuclear attack on the English city of Sheffield. What makes this film a must see is the acting, direction and the down to earth writing. You feel for the main character Ruth as she does what she can to try and survive the barren radioactive wasteland. Another plus is the pseudo-documentary feel the film makers added as a sub-plot.

I have to strongly recommend this film. It's such an important cinematic document of what could happen to civilization after a devastating attack. The film makers even toned down the final product a bit because the real results would even be more drastic and morbid.
