Yu Yu is everything Dragonball Z wish it could be. This is one entertaining and very fun shonen anime; with some very cool action scenes, cool characters, interesting stories, and it actually has something of an ending. There's nothing cerebral about it, and it knows exactly what it wants to be. Highly recommended for someone who wants or prefers that low-brow entertainment that doesn't require one to exercise any brain cells. I feel like shooting through the complete series right now.

You know what? I'll go ahead and do that, taking it as a request. :) I'll see if I can start on it this weekend.
YYH is definitely on my short list of absolute favorites, so I'll be looking forward to your review. For me, this is one of the few I can watch even now and still enjoy every minute, unlike DBZ where I turn it on on Saturdays and wonder why I ever liked it to begin with. I think one of the best things about YYH is that with each arc it manages to successfully top itself. Plus I am totally in love with the English cast. Justin Cook did a phenomenal job voicing Yusuke, imo. And now every time I hear Chuck Huber on anything else I think of Hiei. Have you seen the movies? The short one isn't really very good, but the feature length one I liked a lot. I downloaded it years ago - the sub though because for some reason they didn't bring back the series dub cast, and so I've heard the English version of the movie is just awful.

YYH just might be my favorite of this type of anime. And you're right about that, it did get better with each arc making the battles so entertaining and even suspenseful. But the thing I liked about it the most was how the secondary characters were used. They weren't just there for a body count to be beaten and tossed to the side, Kurama and Hiei were very tough, and got their fair share of kills.
The movies were ok from what I remember, but I saw them a long time ago. Like the series, I would have to see them again.
Ever seen Fullmetal Alchemist and D. Gray Man? I think you'll like those too.
