Looking up and staying up

  • Nov 29, 2009
Family Ties was the TV sitcom where we were first introduced to Michael J. Fox. You either love Alex Keaton or you hate him. Either way, he was captivating & he had a way with him which even at his worst, he's somewhat lovable. That character of Alex Keaton brought Michael J. Fox to fame. Well, as with all other stars, he has had his moments of fame in Hollywood.

What's amazing though, he has also had his fair share of good fortune. A devoting wife, a loving family and a life anyone or everyone would have wish for. But life never quite turns out as he envisioned. Perhaps it's his good fortune to begin with, perhaps it's God being fair, perhaps it's a lot of other factors. As some would have said it, God gives out lessons to each and everyone of us. And, Michael J. Fox got the biggest lesson of his life. At the height of his career and fame, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. That was back then in 1991. It's been a long way since then. And I'm proud to say he has passed all his tests and lessons in life!

I'm always fascinated by people who are being able to get up from the dumps in life and emerged a better person as a result of it. It's optimistic to see people conquered whatever hardships that life dishes out at them. We all need encouragements from life somewhat; regardless of where we will get them ultimately. I think Michael J. Fox has provided that impetus to mankind. He's everyone's hero because of this illness and his way of facing life. Just amazing to know someone like this exists in this world! Same for Christopher Reeve who may have passed on but his spirit certainly lives on!
