The dead man was the writer and another wasn't found

The trailer looked great, a troubled woman, a man who can help her and he's in trouble too-wait a minute....Noomi Rapace.....Niels Arden Oplev?  The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo retread?  Hardly, and when you see the movie, thats about all that needs to be said.

Colin Farrell is a mob heavy working with Alphonse played by Terrance Howard who is involved with real estate scams and at work with the Albanian Mob.  Colin's character has ties to Alphonse whose actions led to the death of Colin's young daughter.  One day on the job, a woman named Beatrice (Noomi Rapace) records on her phone Colin in the middle of a hit and blackmails him into murdering the man who disfigured her in a car accident but walked with a slap on the wrist.  Now with a scarred face, (but being Noomi Rapace she's still beautiful) she's simmering with revenge after being unable to have her beautician job and being bullied by neighborhood kids at being a monster.

Dead Man Down has a great story behind it, but it's twists, turns and sidestories are poorly explained.  Characters show up with little rhyme and reason, things happen and then they move on.  The Albanian mob show up and don't get a real explanation as to who is what.  Theres a captive man in an underpass who Colin is taking care of.  Not much gets lip service.  The cast is great with Colin Farrel and Noomi Rapace especially and Terrance Howard, even with his high pitched voice brings class and danger as Alphonse.  Even more surprising is Armand Assante and F Murray Abraham in minor roles, and in case of Assante, a one scene wonder-but again with the story telling it was a little hard figuring out who he was.  I'm guessing he was in league with the Albanians since his tense scene with Howard's Alphonse is the only indicator.

One other thing to remark is the appearance of the WWE Films logo.  This film is certainly not at the levels of other funded works, but the most they're influence gets is the appearance of one of it's wrestlers: Wade Barret who plays the mob heavy Kilroy.  His appearances in the film are few and most of his lines are clearly recorded post production, so don't fear too much.

Dead Man Down isn't a waste of time, but for it's high energy opening and climax this is another one of those movies that takes a little too long to get where it's going-that or it needs an edit or a rewrite to fit something a little more substational into it's mix.

Farrell is a beast. WWE is fast becoming one of H-wood's top studios since they have THE CALL also coming out this weekend with a top actress in Halle Berry too. Oplev always directed his movies in a certain way I guess, often Foreign directors get asked to make changes.

WWE has long been one to get any sort of mainstream name recognition outside of it's wrestling roots and I'm willing to bet with this movies minor budget, they got it some money, some distribution and in return got one of they're guys in the movie too. I really wanted to like this movie and was a little dissapointed that it didn't come off better cause there was SOMETHING there.

A troubled man and woman have they're live's connect while plotting revenge against those who wronged them. Great cast and story gets lost on really slow points and a couple of odd twists.
