As anyone can tell you I am a big Lou Diamond Phillips fan and pretty much love everything he is in. now I did say pretty much because some of the films are eh but he is good in all of them. Any way this is one of my favorites since I really like the villain here. Plus the title alone was great when I first saw this way back. One word and straight to the point, you know I am all about it. Plus how could I not own a movie with The Lou in it.
Jake Lucas [The Lou] is a cop and we all know the stress that can come with that job. So one night at a bar he meets a young man named Oliver [the excellent Edoardo Ballerini].Oliver buys Jake a drink but something is off about this guy. Next thing Jake knows he is waking up in the bar bathroom with his gun missing. Oliver is killing people and setting things up to look like Jake is to blame. Add into the mix a stripper who may be able to help Jake out as she may know exactly who this guy is.
I really like the dynamic here between Lou and Ed and the back and forth the two have with each other. In fact one of the last lines in the film is one of my all time favorites from any movie. I am not going to say what it is but if you watch the film I am sure you can guess what it is. The Lou is great as always but I have to say Edoardo Ballerini is excellent as Oliver here. In all honesty it might surpass his performance in “The Pest” as my favorite from him. Of course villain roles are always more interesting than the hero role.
While it may not be the most original film out there it does move at a nice pace and makes for a nice action/thriller type flick. The performances are great from all involved and the final showdown is one of my favorites. It may because of that line I like so much and how it is delivered but I liked it. The only thing this movie is missing is a commentary on the DVD. I would have loved that beyond belief.
