PIG HUNT

spoilers

With a title like that I was really looking forward to a fun b movie full of blood and a giant pig killing off some hunters. I mean everything about the title and the cover would make one think that right? Well that is what it made me think and sadly it wasn't fully that while at the same time it was, confusing I know. But don't let that make you think all is bad here because it isn't. Sure this movie does not live up to ones expectations but those are mine so maybe you won't be after reading this and then seeing it. I got this because it is one of the Fangoria Fright Fest movies.

The film follows a group of friends who are going on a hunting trip on the property of one of the guy's [John] uncle. Turns out John once lived out there and he is going to hunt for the large pig that he believes killed his uncle. Once arriving some "old friends" of his come along for the ride. So the hunt is on and the legend grows as does the tension amongst the group. Some believe in the pig while others don't, and John's new friends don't trust his old.

You see the main problem with this movie is that it could have been a really good one of the three it was. Firstly this movie could have been all about the group hunting that pig and the pig taking them out one by one, kinda like a pork "Anaconda" or "Jaws". That could have been a really good flick that built the bacon drama up. Then there could have been the one where the hicks are hunting them down and with or without the ham that could have been good. Then of course there could have been the final movie with the crazy hippies killing off every one. Sadly the final version is a mix of all three.

Now there is some fun to be had here as the acting is good for the most part but even still we never see the pig really until the end. And even then it is cut in a way that we don't see much of it all the time. I will say that the DVD is very good because of the commentary and the good making of that is featured here. I can tell Director James Isaac was trying to make a fun flick here and he somewhat accomplished this. You may like this movie more so than I, try it out.

The title says it all and then some. It may feel crappy and honestly this is one weird movie. It has some B-movie appeal, but the screenplay has so many elements that proved superfluous and disconnected.      However, how wouldn't want to see hippie lesbians, vengeful hicks, a wannabe shaman and a wannabe cook?
