Promoted as a “based on true events” movie, “Snitch” is actually a fictional film based on what the U.S. government has in place as policies when dealing with drug dealers. Being a ‘snitch’ allows a reduction in sentence that such a thing had become a part on its war on drugs.

That said, “Snitch” is a movie that is simple, but then that is what made it effective. It does not over-reach and keeps its focus on Matthews (Dwayne Johnson) as he tries to negotiate his son’s release. There is very little action in the film, as the narrative makes the DEA, the U.S. system, and just what a father would do for his son its central focus. The film has a lot of holes in the script when you really think about it, but it does have its entertainment value once you decide not to over think it.

I liked the film’s main premise and the performances were solid enough to sell me the film. The condemnation of strict mandatory drug laws may not be as strong, as it is a little too basic and a little cloudy, but all in all, it was a good film to rent. [3 Out of 5 Stars]
