If I were to imply that A Serbian Film was an enjoyable experience, I'd be lying. Everything you could possibly hear about this film is probably true and I certainly wouldn't recommend this movie to just anyone. To make myself a bit more clear, you might want to avoid it altogether if you're not a lover of the extreme cinema.

On the same token, I'd compare it to a blind date that starts off rather slowly but ends horribly wrong. Picture yourself meeting a stranger for the first time in a classy restaurant. Mind you, things are going pretty well and so you agree to head back with your date for a nightcap only to find yourself bludgeoned no sooner than you walk through the apartment door. In the morning, you wake up naked alongside some bench in the middle of nowhere with a concussion. You've been ass raped and there is plenty of blood and cum dripping down you're legs. Unfortunately, you can't remember a damn thing. How enjoyable was that blind date?
Srdan Spasojevic has created what may be the most controversial yet engrossing film about a semi-retired porn star who receives an offer he simply can't refuse. In a matter of just days, his happy home life is about to be turned literally upside down and everyone he loves may be in great danger. Although it's almost hard to imagine what could possibly be so evil about shooting a mere skin flick, Milos agrees upon his wife's insistence but constantly feels ill at ease as he remains completely ignorant of the story and plot line. In fact, he even enlists the help of his police brother to do a thorough background check on Vukmir only to find nothing remotely devastating let alone juicy.
After shooting a rather disturbing porn scene where a young girl watches, Milos has decided the film is definitely not a project he cares to finish although our warped director Vukmir is determined to convince him otherwise. Vukmir proceeds to introduce Milos to his artwork which includes a scene where a man aids a young woman in birth only to rape the newborn within seconds of it's birth. Realizing the extent of Vukmir's insanity, Milos storms out of the building and calls it quits for good. Unfortunately, Milos is about to discover his work is far from over and there is nothing he can do to prepare himself for the dangers that lie ahead.
Three days later, Milos wakes up with no recollection of anything that's transpired. Milos returns to the set and finds a series of mini tapes which will reveal everything that took place in the time that has elapsed. Now Milos is prepared to fight back with every ounce of strength he's got in his body. In fact, he will find that some body parts have uses one could never imagine.
A few interesting scenes: Vukmir instructs Miloš to slice the woman's head off with a machete in order to induce rigor mortis as he continues to have sex with her body. Another tape contains a scene in which Miloš is naked and chained to a bed face down. Two men enter the room, one holding a camera. The man without the camera begins anally raping the unconscious Miloš.
While A Serbian Film is definitely going to strike a nerve with audiences everywhere, there is also an underground following which has embraced the film with open arms. A Serbian Film remains more of a soul-scorching psychological drama rather than a horror film per se but fans of the disturbing, gritty, & ultra-violent will consider this quintessential viewing. I can only hope that Srđan Spasojević's film will not suffer the same fate as Clark's Ken Park, which still hasn't been granted a North American film release to date. Even worse, I pray that no company dare snip the film to ribbons as Lions Gate did with Palumbo's Murder-Set-Pieces. Spasojević's film is worthy of great praise and deserves to be seen in it's entirety.
Fans of Gaspar Noe's Irreversible, Pier Paolo Pasolini's Salo, & Nick Palumbo's Murder-Set-Pieces are in for a real surprise.

See it!!! That's all I can say. But be forewarned. It's not a happy film at all. Watch it anyway you can bro. I highly recommend this.

You must see this one. It gets my vote for best of film of 2010 easily. Somehow I knew you or Alex would be the only ones to read this review or to find the film moderately interesting. How good am I? You're welcome Woo!!!

About this movie
A Serbian Film (Serbian: Српски филм / Srpski film) is a 2010 Serbian horror film set in Serbia, the first feature film directed by Srđan Spasojević. It tells the story of a down-on-his-luck porn star who agrees to participate in an "art film", only to discover that he has been drafted into a snuff movie with child rape and necrophilic themes. The film stars Serbian actors Srđan Todorović and Sergej Trifunović. Upon its debut on the art film circuit, the film received substantial attention for its graphic depictions of rape, necrophilia, and incest.
The state prosecution of Serbia opened an investigation to find out if the film violates the law. It is being investigated for elements of crime against sexual morals and crime related to the protection of minors. It was banned by a San Sebastián court for "threatening sexual freedom" and thus could not be shown in the XXI Semana de Cine Fantástico y de Terror (21st Horror and Fantasy Film Festival).
Plot
Miloš is a semi-retired Serbian porn star with a beautiful wife and young son. Although strapped financially, his home life is happy, and his biggest problem comes in the form of the jealousies of his brother, Marko, a corrupt police officer who envies Miloš' family life.
