Dragon Ball Z. A long running series with a total of 13 movies to speak of. This is movie #9. Dont know what DBZ is? Well, its too long of a story to explain here, so if you really wanna know, I suggest going back and doing some research. Its possible to watch this without any previous DBZ knowledge, but there are a lot of past references made that you probably wont get.
We start out simply enough. Goku is dead at this point in time and is busy hanging out with King Kai. Vegeta is kickin back at home. Another tournament is being held, Gohan, Trunks, Krillin, Piccolo, Tien, and Yamcha all enter (of course). The weird thing about this tournament is that throughout the levels of difficultly when fighting an opponent, there are worlds (actually just sets) where you fight aliens (people dressed up). Yeah, I know. It was all the idea of Mr. Money, the guy hosting the tournament for his sons birthday. But no one cares about that.
We soon find out that because Goku brought Cell to King Kais little planet (which consequently blew up), a nasty character named Bojack and his group of followers was allowed to escape a seal put in place by the Kais long ago. Haha, oops. So now hes out and about and has decided that Earth looks like nice place to visit
or rule. Whatever, its all the same right?
Meanwhile, the rest of the group except Piccolo who had left in the middle if the tournament earlier has encountered Bojacks henchmen and realized that these arent dressed up people
these are real aliens and they mean business! They arent just kidding around when they act like they want to kill people! Naturally a fight ensues. Each person has someone else to contend with (as usual), and (as usual) Piccolo and Vegeta make their entrances.
But what will it take to kill Bojack? Goku cant do anything (being dead and all) so its all up to
who?
I wont give it away, though Im sure some of you already know or can simply take a guess. I cant give this one five stars because it just doesnt
ok well
**SPOILER ALERT!!**
Its not the fact that it isnt Goku saving the day that bothers me. And seeing that Gohan is the one who does, the fact that Goku has to go in there and yell at him to stop being nice and just kill the guy for the sake of the earth does kind of annoy me. You think by this point Gohan would have known by now. And really, this kind of thing shouldnt happen. Because once he goes SSJ2 he takes out Bojacks guys without a problem and gets rid of Bojack himself with far less work than he did with Cell. Wouldnt that have been easier than letting everyone get the crap kicked out of them first? I guess they had to do this in order to have a movie of any length, after all, in other movies the Saiya-jins (whoever it might be at the time) always fight in their normal state, get beat up, and then then go SSJ and win. Maybe its a Saiya-jin thing. But it just annoyed the crap out of me here. For once Id like to see Vegeta be the hero of something like in the Buu Saga. But I know enough to know hes not.
**END SPOILDER!!**
The plot, otherwise, was a pretty good idea, though it is a little short-lived, and I do give props to the way Bojack and his men (and woman) looked. The movie does tend to get a lot less recognition than others, possibly because its not Goku whos the hero. But its still a good DBZ movie when it comes to fighting, and theres a little more blood than exists in the others (as long as you get uncut versions). I enjoy it, though its not one of my favorites. And as usual, I recommend the sub over the dub versions. But thats just me. The regular voice actors of DBZ do a pretty good job. Whatever floats your boat. ^_~
