Cons: Absolutely nothing. I can watch it over & over.
I love this movie. This is my all-time favorite movie EVER made. Really. When I was ten years old, all of my friends wanted to be actresses and models and ballerinas. Me? I wanted to be center-fielder for the New York Mets. Lenny Dykstra was my idol.
When this movie was released while I was in high school, my love for baseball was renewed. I don't know how many times I saw it in the theatre. I constantly watch the video. It's an inspiration to me, since it proves two important points: Women can do anything they want and Dreams can come true.
Dottie and Kit are sisters who live on a farm in Oregon. When they're not working at the dairy, they play on a local softball team. Dottie (played by Geena Davis) is the star catcher and Kit (played by Lori Petty) is her kid sister and pitcher. (She's also a utility player -- plays the outfield when she's not pitching.) When presented with the opportunity to join the All American Girl's Professional Baseball League, Dottie accepts only to get Kit to the try outs. On the way, the agent (Jon Lovitz) brings them to see Marla Hooch. An incredible hitter with "an eye like DiMaggio", Marla is brought (though reluctantly because she's unattractive) to Chicago to try out. All three make the team of Rockford, and proudly wear the Rockford Peach Uniform.
It's a story that tells all about the history of the AAGPBL, what happens on teams, what these women went through who had husbands in the war, and how the public reacted to them. A star studded cast which includes Tom Hanks, Rosie O'Donnell, Madonna, and even Tea Leone, the chemistry is unbelievable.
I was watching Behind The Music on VH-1 the other day, and Rosie was talking about Madonna, specifically about A league of Their Own. What impresses me is that EVERY ACTOR in this movie played baseball. There were no stunt doubles at all. I love that.
There are a lot of sub plots here, too. You find what happens in the sibling rivalry between Kit and Dottie, what happens when people have to choose between their love of baseball and their love of a man or woman, how alcohol effects what people say and do. You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll learn about a little bit of America's history that a lot of people (including myself) didn't know existed before this movie was made.

In 1943 when the ranks of professional male baseball players were leaving for the war, a group of ladies left their homes to become part of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and kept baseball alive for a grateful nation. This is their story. Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis) is the team's most gifted player,and the camaraderie and jealousy with her sister (Lori Petty) is part of this film's charm and complexity. Jimmy Dugan (Tom Hanks) is the drunken ex-player and slob manager who eventually brings the team to success.
