A 2010 American action comedy film directed by Edgar Wright based on the comic book series Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O'Malley.
< read all 26 reviews In terms of actors today, Michael Cera is kind of overrated. He plays the same character in every single movie he's in: the awkward, geeky teen who's either anxious to lose his virginity or just be generally geeky. That doesn't mean that every once in a while, he can turn in a good performance, and Scott Pilgrim is definitely one of them. This is an incredibly awesome movie, and epic of epic epicness indeed. It's also kind of hard to put into words unless the person you're talking to has also seen the movie. Needless to say, this, the A-Team, and Inception were the three best movies I saw in 2010.
First of all, the acting is pretty good. Not only did Michael Cera submit the proper quantity of geek, but Mary Elizabeth Winstead did a fantastic job as well. But out of all the awesome actors, the best by far were every single one of the evil exes (minus the Asian twins who didn't talk). I love Jason Schwartzman as an actor, and he was definitely not disappointing in my favourite role of his to date. Of course, two of the evil exes were Superman and The Human Torch/Captain America respectively, so I loved that, and the two that I have not yet mentioned were also pretty epic.
The story is incredibly well told and accentuated by the comic-style fighting and comic/video-game style visuals. On that note, I loved the visual style. I never played many videogames as a child, but I still got some of the videogame references and I really loved the comic-style sound effects (for example, the word "ring" literally came from the phone every time it rang). That, for me, just made the movie all the more complete and made it far more awesome.
If you haven't seen this, you simply must see it now. It's truly a great film and call me crazy, but I think it's one of the best films of 2010. Definitely worth a rental. Great acting, great story, great visuals, just all around great movie. I highly recommend to anybody.
