Stallone + Russell = nachos

Is it possible for a movie to be as corny as it is cheesy?  Can it still be fun even though the drivel you see before you is pretty bad?  Yes on all accounts with this cliche machine of a movie.

Stallone is Ray Tango.  He's a white collar cop who plays the market, wears fine suits on the job, carries a small gun and drives sports cars as he stops crime.  Russell is Gabriel Cash.  He's a blue collar cop who works down town eats, greasy pizza, carries a Dirty Harry gun with a laser sight and has a hole in the wall apartment.  I smell a sitcom!!!  Anyway, both cops compete for appearances in the paper and make huge drug bust arrests which attracts the attention of the local kingpin played by Jack Palance.  Setting up an elaborate sting to land Tango and Cash in jail for a fake murder.  Tango and Cash must get over each other's ego and work together to get out of prison and clear they're names.

Whats wrong with this movie?  One thing is that it's a mish mash of different styles.  First it's an outlandish cop movie then goes to prison escape movie then to buddy movie and then a little bit of James Bond thrown in for good measure resulting in a Nintendo wet dream battle car thrown in at the end with other assorted trucks and construction equpment having a demolition derby to the death of sorts with Palance watching on and cheering for our heroes deaths.  Oh and don't let me forget Cash's "boot guns" since for being in a run down part of town, Cash's Police Department has more then enough money to afford it's own Q Branch.  The movie the whole way through is REALLY over the top in some scenes and it's hard to take too seriously.

The plus side is that I really liked seeing Stallone and Russell work in the movie and they had great chemistry.  Teri Hatcher is there to sex things up as Kiki, a nightclub dancer in a skimpy dress, and don't worry ladies you do get to see Stallone and Russell in the shower upon reaching prison.  The movie, inspite of it's cornballness and ham villian is a lot of fun to watch and theres enough action so that your not bored.  I guess I can say that I get a great laugh out of a scene where Tango sticks a grenade in a badguy's mouth and tapes it in.  It's just so damn silly.

Tango and Cash like I said is full of corn cheese and ham.  Now I'm hungry.

Stallone is a rich cop, Russel is a poor cop they fight crime and stop a corny drug kingpin. Fun but super stupid in some places.

It just goes to show how a stupid story, and such UNREALISTIC scenarios and situations displayed that make it as such of a stupid film, and yet it still manages to some how find it's way on the big screen. To sum it up, a stupid director, and two actors who could not care less about their own integrity, if they ever had any.

Tango and Cash (1989) was one of the many cop buddy films to come out throughout the 80's. But unlike most of them, this one was funny and entertaining. Sadly films like this one tend to fall apart because the film-makers do not know how to end a movie. Stallone and Russell make a very likable duo, too bad they never made a follow up to this one. Tango and Cash not only parodies other films of this genre, but it also pokes not only fun at themselves but other films that they were in. Jack Palance …
