Each One Keeps Getting Better

As a huge vampire buff my fascination started with the books, which I read through in a matter of less than 2 weeks. The first movie, Twilight was such a disappointment to me, that I have been skeptical about watching any more. However, I continue to watch more as a thing a friend and I do together, but because actually they keep getting better. With this being a bigger budget film than the two previous Twilight movies, I was definitely hoping for better and it delivered.

The second movie was really only saved because, and I hate to say this, Jacob with no shirt on for most of the movie, but Eclipse really starts to see the actors come into their element. Both Patterson and Stewart now having a couple of movies under their belts are really starting to look more natural on screen. They both have more facial emotion and finally have stopped talking through their teeth. Stewart who is Bella really is kind of a keep to herself shy person, but doesn't mean she has to look like she's in pain every time she says a line! Patterson, who plays Edward also has more emotion to him and is finally believable as a love interest.

Of course we can't leave Lautner out of this, who plays Jacob, while to me has always had great stage presence, he really steps it up a notch and becomes a believable contender for Bella's affections. Aside from his good looks, he really heats up the screen not only as a hot blooded wolf who's as strong as steel, but really know's how to get a girl to melt! Yes, he does warm Bella up in a tent in the middle of a snow storm, but he really shows promise as a leading man for future rolls. The passion in which he tells Bella that he loves her is great.

I'm not going to say that this movie was the be all and end all of movies, but it was definitely a more emotionally intense movie. The characters are really coming into their own and finally showing what love is all about. Perhaps I'm just a hopeless romantic, but who wouldn't want two men fighting for your affections.

There are a few things that I wasn't really thrilled with when it come to some inconsistencies. The first was that in the scenes with Edward in Bella at their field of flowers, you can tell the sun is shining, but hardly any sparkle appears on Edward as it does in the other movies. Why is that? Not that I agree that Vampires should sparkle, but it was written this way and I saw very little of that in the movie during sunlight scenes. The second was that anytime a vampire was killed in the movie, they broke as if they were made of glass. Now maybe my details of the books may be sketchy since I read them over a year and a half ago, but aren't they supposed to still bleed? At least they did in the first two. The only thing I could think of is that it was cold and being that vampires have no heat they were frozen? I don't know, but I found that to be a little weird.

I liked the flash backs of the Cullen clan as Rosalie and Jasper told their stories on how they were changed. Made them seem more human, but also more personable. Both weren't as cold and unfeeling and again Jasper seemed almost normal and not talking through his teeth and looking like he was constipated which was a really nice change. I guess to sum that up everyone from Bella's dad to the Vampires just seemed more relaxed and natural. This made the movie easier to watch than the last two.

While I love Vampires, and I really did like the way that Meyers wrote the books, I still have a hard time comparing hers to Anne Rice's Vampires. It's like there are two different breeds and which one is right. I like the idea a vampire can walk in daylight or at least cloudy days, and that they don't feed on humans because they are trying to peacefully exist in society and not attract attention, but I do miss the brooding, night stalking, soul searching vamps that I grew to love through the novels of Anne Rice, but for a series that's geared towards teens, it's not all together bad.

While I'm not the camp out for the opening and buy Edward vs Jacob memorabilia, I'm enjoying seeing the movies develop along and I am looking forward to the next one to come.

Great review; I haven't seen this one yet; I liked the other ones, but again, there were things I didn't like about them - such as Bella being so boring and wondering why everyone is falling over each other to win her affection. I saw on some interview show that the writer wanted to make her vampires a little different than others in order to make the stories different (which is probably why there are no "Ann Rice - type characters"). I do not like romance films, but I did think the Twilight sagas have been OK. Eclipse sounds like one I'd like to see eventually. I still would prefer to see more realistic vampires and werewolfs though. I really love the way you described the movie -- great review!!

Yeah, I agree with the realism part, I mean we want to see on screen a version of what we really have in our imaginations. And your right, Bella is boring!

Great review, Holly! I'm a hopeless romantic, too. Perhaps I should check out this movie :P Thanks for sharing!

Always hopeless for me! Read to many romance novels growing up!

Great write up and I liked the way you remained level-headed in your analysis. I know this movie isn't something that I would like so I tend to stay away at least until it comes to video. Thanks for the review! Sounds like this may be the best of the movie series so far...

It really is the best movie so far, definitiely want to rent it when it comes to video. Not something I would normally go and spend money to see, but it's something me and my girlfriend do.

Great review although I am not a bug fan of these, still I am really interested in Dakota Fanning in this. She impressed me in a film called "The Secret Life of Bees" and she looked really evil in the final scenes of the last one in this series.

Oh Fanning looked very evil in this movie! I think she has a very promising career for many years to come!

Twilight is a phenomenon.  There's no doubt about that.  It's acquired it's fair share of love and hatred alike.  But nothing seems to be as huge as when a movie comes out.  You can always find the theaters packed by audiences with anticipation on the day of the premiere and obsessive fans who are wondering which team you're on.  Team Edward.  Or Team Jacob.  Eclipse is the third film in the series, based off the book of the same name.  While …

This is the largest budget movie where the camera almost never moves. I mean how much does it cost to pan or actually zoom instead of cut? Also the fight scenes lasted about a minute combined so apparently all the money went into CGI wolves and glitter (last time I checked glitter was still pretty cheap unless they have invented a kind that you can in fact wash off). Finally, acting? Hello, I'm convinced the cast can read but cute stand-ins can do that for scale. I mean it looked for a minute that …

I had been told Eclipse was the best Twilight movie. If by the best, those who hold that opinion, mean more half-naked Jacob, more intense staring deeply into one-another's eyes, more vampire action and kick-butt battle scenes, then they are correct.      I found Eclipse to be the darkest and creepiest of the Twilight series. Edward's obsessiveness over Bella is a trait that many a concerned mother has warned her daughter about. And I guess this …

Dear Twilight Franchise --   I know that over the past handful of years you have been compared to the Harry Potter phenomina, which there is nothing wrong with since it was and still is wildly sucessful, but you should not have let that go to your head.  Just because HP is splitting the final story into two parts does not mean that you have to as well.  Yes Twilight blew up over night just prior to the first film.  Yes the books are a great YA (young adult) series that got …

While it's not nearly as bad as New Moon, Eclipse is hardly what I would call a great improvement in this series. The love story is as dull and the characters as vapid and self-obsessed as ever, though some much-needed humor is injected in to the series melodramatic love triangle. Part of the issue is with the poorly written script which all but glazes over any real characterization or plot and focuses more on longing glances and sighs of romantic frustration. Yuck. Another part of the …

There's something funny about the Twilight Saga- both the books and the movies. The books are good, especially the last one (Breaking Dawn), and the first two movies are fair. So why did I still find myself standing in line like an obsessed teenager to see Eclipse, the third movie installment, on opening day? I'm still not sure, but I'm glad I did.   Eclipse is by far the best movie of the three Twilight installments. Of course, we see the whole Bella/Edward/Jacob triangle. …

Twilight Saga Eclipse
These movies just get better and better every time. I went with a friend to go see Eclipse, I was extremely excited to see what was going to happen. It was great to see that they brought in new vampires (newborns) to join forces with Victoria, and go against the Collin's. Little did Victoria know that the Edward's family join forces with Jacob's family. I loved every bit of this movie from beginning to end. However I tend to hate when they make sequels and the change the characters, …

What Pompted You to write a Review?   Well to start off Eclipse was a movie I was so anxious to see and many other die hard twilight fans. I anticipated the release of the movie (but didnt wait in line for the premiere thank you very much) and to my dismay was dissapointed.     How was the Plot, Acting, Direction?   The Acting I might be to harsh on since many fans will tell me im wrong but these characters are not the best …

The Twilight Saga: Doing to Vampires what Harry Potter did to Witchcraft.
"Team Edward or Team Jacob?"      The smiling goth in the ticket booth at the drive-in means no harm. Her words are not spoken out of spite or malice, and there is no malicious intent behind her question. She is simply trying to share in the excitement of the theatrical release of the third film in the Twilight series, based on the novels by Stephanie Meyer. As far as she knows, the only reason someone would be paying to see Eclipse opening weekend is that …

"The Twilight Saga: New Moon" abruptly ended with Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) telling his girlfriend, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) that he will turn her into a vampire on the condition that they get married first. And so "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," the third film in a series serving as an extended metaphor for abstinence, begins with the two lovingly lying in a field of flowers, and you can sense the anticipation they both feel, especially Bella, who radiates with virginal longing. As bothersome …

Melissa Rosenberg, who penned the scripts for both Twilight and New Moon, will be returning as screenwriter.
