Reducing a tragic REAL event to a mere cheesy love story is appalling. Missed the social and moral implications of the tragedy...

Liked it, kinda

It didn't have anything that any of the other versions didn't have. Even the effects weren't worth sitting through that hokey love story for.

I told my friends when I saw it first time, "....wake me up when they hit the iceberg" it was just so boring and dull even with the set designs, acting and pacing. The drama was also too overly sentimental and canned.
December 16, 2010
Even the effects didn't strike me as all that special. Aside for the few minutes of film of the actual wreck, I can't imagine any justifiable reason for seeing this.

Now I WOULD like to see the Nazi version.

'As for ignoring the issues of the time, nothing could be further from the truth. Rosie wanted to end her life rather than dealing with the aristocratic nonsense that pervaded that time, along with a mother who cared more for her social standing than her daughter..." LOL! Ok, this further proves this movie is canned and doesn't help the arguement that this is a good movie since Rosie is now mentally ill in my eyes after Scotman said that. This movie is so boring and heavy-handed. Yeah, that scene was so contrived and what it was trying to say was so unrealistically 'in your face." .... unimaginative, overly sentimental, forced and pointless.

Scotman says: "There are many nuances in this film that with repeated viewings even Woopak might enjoy.." sure, whatever. Why are you throwing another fit, Scot? IMHO, this movie is stupid and hokey--nothing can change my mind on that. A prime example of "giving the viewers what they want to see and not what they need to see". Glad you liked it, but I didn't. ...it is not because I didn't "get it", for me it was insulting to the people who died that day.

I think I saw parts of that Nazi version, and the Filipino comedic spoof was even better than this dreck--it was called "Tatay Nick" LOL!

So this movie is "hockey'? Does that mean you don't give a puck about it? =) Oooh. A Filipino spoof? Sounds like I have to check out NetFlix.
December 18, 2010
I knew you'd say that! LOL!

caught the hockey thing LMAO!
December 18, 2010
Which part? Oh, checking it out of course!
December 19, 2010
Yes, Karen, "tatay-Nick" LOL!

Check this out:

Scot, whatever, dude, I saw the director's cut too. You say: "If you want a serious treatment of the conditions at the time then see the History channel". So, now basically you are telling me NOT to take a REAL tragic event seriously to enjoy this movie? LOL! Again, with the Academy awards...again! "Up" won over "Persepolis" (oh, I remember you saying that you haven't seen that film LOL!) and millions of viewers gave Bay's Transformers 2 huge returns. Now, if this didn't use the backdrop of a real event then maybe I'll be kinder to it. The thing is the tragedy of Titanic was tragic because of the ignorance of the generation at that time. True, Cameron is a good director albeit uneven, and I like the fact that he did his research for the visuals but that was it...the story was cheesy.

This movie was a trend and many got over it. Let's just leave it at that, You liked it, I didn't. No need to get snarky...

Now, boys, play nice. The clip won't work.

Almost everyone is aware of the movie Titanic.  It is the world's highest grossing film, and it doesn't look like anything will out-gross it any time.  Despite a huge box office gross, however, it's easy to say that there probably a million movies that are a whole lot better.  In 1997-1998 while it was reigning at the box office (staying at number 1 for fifteen straight weeks) it seemed like an unstoppable phenomenon.  People were seeing it more than once... a lot more than once.  …

A film that defined a genration and still has the power to speak to audiences of today...
The sinking of the Titanic was one of the greatest tragedies  in  history more than a 1,517 lives were lost to the frozen  waters it was a  tragedy that shook the  world  in  1912  and left a lasting impression on all those  who   heard of the loss of that day. Many films have been made in 1943 Werner Klinger used the events as Nazi propaganda to discredit British and American capitalist dealings and glorify the bravery and selflessness of Germanic …

Aside from it's legacy at the box office, Titanic has little that makes it that memorable. It doesn't have a lot that makes it stand out. It's got great film technique and a huge emotional impact, but there are dozens more movies that have the same impact... it's just a movie that had a fantastic run at the box office and a smart director behind the camera.

This move is moving. It was historical. It was kinda slow. There are just so many things that I don't understand about this movie. Much of it has to do with character motivation. Also one of my biggest problems with it, is that Dicaprio should not have died! I felt like he didn't want it bad enough. In these type of tragic movies I try to put myself into the shoes of the characters and try to think about what I'd do. And maybe it's just me, but I would've survived the tragedy. …

Stunning visuals and story of lovers from different castes who meet on the doomed ocean liner. Too sad or long to warrant a new watch.

Wasting so much $$$ to sink a ship on the screen & then to market the movie as a Love Story? Total waste!

Oh man, I totally saw this cheese fest when it first came out. It's something that I'll only ever watch once. Too long.
