1997 James Bond Movie starring Pierce Brosnan

Ever since I was a young boy I have always been enamored by fine watches. So, ever since I was a kid, one of the alluring elements of Bond movies for me was to observe which types of watches were being used, especially by Bond. As I matured I found that I share many of Bond’s predilections for enjoying the “finest” things life has to offer. I think a fine watch is part of the character makeup for depicting Bond as a suave and “smooth operator.” Admittedly, I am not quite as good looking as some of the Bond actors; however, I am as well travelled and I have had my share of exciting “missions” as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot. As an adult, I came to appreciate fine watches more as I started earning some real money. Now I will tell you that because I am a pilot I have a natural affinity for Breitling chronograph watches. Unfortunately, Bond was only issued one Breitling by Q in the movie “Thunderball.” However, I thought it would be fun to write about Bond watches, I hope you enjoy, tell me what you think and if you enjoy Bond watches as well.

1997 “Tomorrow Never Dies” Omega Seamaster Detonator Watch
In "Tomorrow Never Dies": Bond picks up a new version of the Omega courtesy of Wai Lin's stock of gadgets. Bond uses the detachable remote detonator to make a booby trap with a grenade and a glass jar. When Bond needs a diversion after Carver shoots his hostage, Gupta, 007 triggers the detonator causing the grenade to pop free and self-arm.

As far as the Brosnan Bond movies go, everyone has an opinion on which is best. TND may not be a great movie but at least it's fun, and fast. Pros: Exciting scenes and gadgets more than you can count. Cons: I think this needs a different rating more than PG-13. The Bottom Line: This is an excellent movie with great special effects. In TOMORROW NEVER DIES, British super-spy James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) goes after a ruthless media baron, Elliot Carver--an amalgam of Ted Turner, Rupert Murdoch, and Bill Gates--played with feisty aplomb by Jonathan Pryce. Carver's diabolical plan is to instigate World War III so that his empire can obtain exclusive coverage (a la CNN during the Gulf War). This time, 007 must endure the sorrow of love lost as he shares a nostalgic interlude with his ex-lover Paris (Teri Hatcher) who is now married to his nemesis, Carver. He also discovers a worthwhile partner in a female Chinese counterpart, Wai Lin (Hong Kong action diva Michelle Yeoh). Noteworthy for its unabashed commercial product placement, TOMORROW NEVER DIES follows the sharp direction of Roger Spottiswoode.
