For such a goth-y band with a lead singer as enigmatic as Robert Smith who looks kind of like Edward Scissorhands (actually, that's kind of hot), they create some of the most beautiful and sweetest songs I've ever heard. Their songs are very dream like and can put me into a trance. I can seriously lay in bed and stare at the ceiling all day listening to The Cure. As you can see, I'm kind of partial to their love/unrequited love songs.
"Show me how you do that trick/The one that makes me scream" she said/"The one that makes me laugh" she said/And threw her arms around my neck. One of the sweetest Cure songs ever, though it ends tragically. If you haven't already, you must listen to the acoustic version. Everyone who I've ever shared it with has totally fallen in love with it.
When we look back at it all as I know we will/You and me, wide eyed/I wonder.../Will we really remember how it feels to be this alive? Out of This World is, well, out of this world. Sad and somber, but in a very beautiful and dream-like way.
Monday you can fall apart/Tuesday, Wednesday break my heart/Oh, Thursday doesn't even start/It's Friday I'm in love. A fun and cute Cure song. A tumultuous and overly passionate relationship over the course of a week... Except over and over and over again. At least on Friday, it's love :)
"We're on the edge of a beautiful thing', he said/So come on, jump with me. The latest Cure single. I swear Robert Smith is singing about me. Jadedness will never stop me from living and looking for new experiences. And you bet that if The Perfect Girl were a single, it'd be totally be on this list.
Now I would do most anything/To get you back by my side/But I just keep on laughing /Hiding the tears in my eyes/'cause boys don't cry. A song about not taking anyone for granted, and The Cure managed to make it sound all awesome.
Oh Elise it doesn't matter what you say/I just can't stay here every yesterday/Like keep on acting out the same/The way we act out/Every way to smile/Forget/And make-believe we never needed/Any more than this. A pretty song about being out of someone's league.
"I'm sorry - blame infatuation - blame imagination/I was sure you'd be the one but I was wrong/It seems reality destroys our dreams - I won't forget you" Save Robert Smith's whiny-esque style of singing, this is a pretty darn happy sounding Cure song. The music is all cutesy and tiki island-esque.
