When The Beatles finally called it quits back in 1970 we wondered what would become of them all. Everyone assumed that John and Paul would be fine on their own but could George and Ringo make it as solo acts? Well as we discovered in subsequent years the answer to that question was a resounding YES! In fact, much to my surprise I thought that George might have made the best music in the post-Beatlesyears. Here is a list of the most popular singles from John, Paul, George and Ringo. So many great tunes..so many wonderful memories.
Terrific uptempo tune recalling the litigation surrounding "My Sweet Lord" back in 1970. Enjoy Billy Preston's fine work on piano and organ on this one.
This duet was a huge record back in 1982 and as I recall the video was a fixture on MTV in that networks earliest days. Paul and Michael Jackson worked very well together.
1987 found George still very much in the game making great music. George had always wanted to remake this James Ray hit from the early '60s and does a fabulous job with it.
This was never one of my personal favorites but this was Ringo's first big hit as a solo artis back in 1971. With all four ex-Beatles involved in solo projects at this time Apple records must have been working overtime pressing vinyl to keep up with the demand.
This was a song John originally intended for Ringo but as a result of his untimely death the song was never used. Several years later it was decided to take John's raw demo recording of the tune and finish it. The result was a #5 hit in 1984.
Do you really think that George subconciously stole this melody from The Chiffons 1963 recording of "He's So Fine"? After all it does sound quite similar. I'm glad that I was not the one who ultimately had to make that decision. A great tune nonetheless. From late 1970.
This one topped the charts for 5 weeks in the late spring/early summer of 1976. Paul McCartney was often criticized by some for his tendency to write pop tunes. And as the song says: "What's wrong with that??
Another look back at the Beatle years this would prove to be George Harrison's final charted single in 1988. Sadly, George would pass away of cancer in 2001.
When "Double Fantasy" was released back in 1980 it looked for all the world like John Lennon was on the precipice of a major comeback. But just 2 days after the album was released John was gunned down outside his home in New York City. He was just 40 years old.
Paul was still making great music in 1984. This one was from the movie "Give My Regards To Broad Street" in whic Paul had the starring role.

Thanks, Paul- this list rocks! I've actually only heard a handful of these, so I'm going to have to check out the rest and then, give you my thoughts! The Girl Is Mine is one of my favorites, of course...
This is an interesting list, Paul. I am considering doing my own now, because my list of solo songs would be quite different than this one. I am going to have to go back and revisit Harrison's "What Is Life" based on your recommendation. Great idea!
I've heard a few of these, but I never realized that the Beatles members had so many hit songs collectively after the band! Thanks for sharing, I'll have to check out some of these :)
I guess I would qualify as a frustrated writer. My work requires very little writing and so since 1999 I have been writing reviews on non-fiction books and anthology CD's on amazon.com. I never could … more
