Thanksgiving Playlist

  • Nov 24, 2010
As I set up my own Thanksgiving playlist, I thought of a list that has a little of something for everyone. So, if you're stuck playing DJ at your dinner, feel free to use any or all of the songs on here! Or feel free to make your own list and together we could make a great holiday album ;p

Happy Thanksgiving!
Billie Holiday

A great bluesy song perfect for Autumn in New York or for Thanksgiving dinner at your place! A few people will always find their way into any dinner playlist I make and Billie Holiday is definitely one of them.
Ben Folds Five

I LOVE this song! I was introduced to it by one of the coolest couples I've ever had the pleasure of being a wedding DJ for! It's incredibly sweet and shows a man's gratitude for the love of his life.
Ray Charles

Sure, it's a song about a woman but, it's a fun one to add to the list! Rule number one for holiday playlists: you can't play all holiday songs, you'll drive yourself and your guests nuts! So, add a couple of songs in the same genre (for Thanksgiving, keep it mellow- you're not going to do a bunch of dancing after all that tryptophan. Play music that acts well in the background).

Once used as a backdrop for a pretty ominous Eminem song, "Thank You" reminds us to be grateful for those that are always there for us, even in the worst of times!

One of my favorite bands does a remix of one of my favorite funk jams, so yes, it's DEFINITELY on my Thanksgiving list! "Though you may not drive a great big Cadillac/ Gangster whitewalls, TV antennas in the back/ You may not have a car at all/ But remember, brothers and sisters/ You can still stand tall/ Just be thankful for what you've got
Angie Stone

Here's the soul/hip-hop version of Dido's Thank You and it's a definite head-bopper, plan this for later in the evening when you're sitting around having a couple of drinks and relaxing at the table.
Jill Scott

I love Jill Scott's voice and the mellow vibe of this song. What's Thanksgiving without reuniting with your family and all the craziness that comes with it?
Frank Sinatra

Frank is the ultimate dinner playlist crooner- everyone loves some Frank, trust me on this one! With the freezing temperatures keeping us snuggled up by the fire this Thanksgiving, here's a nice one to help keep us singing our off-key behinds off (no, not you guys...I'm talking about my tone deaf family lol).
Bing Crosby

"I've Got Plenty To Be Thankful For" reminds us, in that classic Bing Crosby swinging way, what this holiday is really about! Plus, what's a holiday playlist without Bing Crosby?
Earth, Wind & Fire

Another of those artists I was talking about that I have to include in every playlist, especially if my family's involved, are the fantabulous (yes, it's a word....even if only in my own version of the dictionary ;p) Earth, Wind & Fire! A happy, upbeat song keeps people awake and talking, not crashed out on your dinner table.

What did you think of this list?
