a question by Sep 13, 2011
Recently I was going through my eclectic CD collection and suddenly it occurred to me that while I had covered many different eras and genres, I was lacking any jazz artists on CD. Help me out...
What are some essential jazz records you love?

Well, my dear that are a few in my opinion but, I guess it depends on what kind of jazz you like. I'll give you suggestions based on what I love but, have a listen first to see if you agree!
  1. Kind of Blue by Miles Davis
  2. Bye Bye Blackbird by John Coltrane
  3. Francis A and Edward K by Duke Ellington and Frank Sinatra
  4. Ellington at Newport (live album) by Duke Ellington (get the 1999 remasterd version)
  5. Monk's Dream by Thelonious Monk
  6. Jazz at Massey Hall by Charlie Parker (featuring Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach)
  7. Mingus Ah Um- Charles Mingus
  8. Bitches Brew- Miles Davis
  9. Getz/Gilberto- Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto (started the Bossa Nova craze in the US)
  10. Headhunters- Herbie Hancock
Hope that helps! Have fun :)
