Born on 5/3/28 in Macon, Georgia. Formed own vocal group The Famous Flames. Signed to King/Federal records in January 1956. One of the originators of "soul" music. Known as "The Godfather of Soul". Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
