Rating:

Pros: Great moving music, very appropriate to the mood of the movie.

Cons: Hades negative.

The Bottom Line: This is an amazing compilation of moving and dynamic music.

I have rarely had the music from a movie transport me on so many levels. If I hated this movie (I don't) I'd watch it to hear the music.

Holy cow, this has Queen, Bachman Turner Overdrive, David Bowie, Heart and more.

How can we more powerfully say we are going to kick some derrière and you better like it?

How can such incredible rock support a tale about a medieval knight? Just stand back and let it happen.

This has to be an odd choice. Writer-director Brian Helgeland went out on a limb here but his musical choices work very well for the movie and make an astonishingly wonderful and cohesive ensemble soundtrack.

The musical choices seem to reflect the characters' actions so well. For those of us old fogies who cut our teeth on this stuff, it makes our blood boil and gets us moving. We can't help it. This is boogie music. This is our "risky business" that has us dancing in our underwear and using elongated objects as pseudo microphones.

We Will Rock You. . . This hits me on such a primal level. There has to be some reason that this has become a chant in so many stadiums that has people pounding their feet and hollering "YEAH."

Takin' Care of Business. . .How can anyone be still while listening to this? This song inspires getting up and getting after whatever needs to be taken care of. The spunky guitar and plaintive piano licks could make a lichen get up and dance. This has got to be the theme song of anyone who ever wanted to bulldoze over the competition. This could be inspiration to some folks to get up every day. Every way. . . . . .

Golden Years. . .Get into the groove whop whop whop. It's hard to listen to the lyrics while the movie is going on but in retrospect they are almost custom penned for this movie. "Last night they loved you, opening doors and pulling some strings, angel Come get up my baby. In walked luck and you looked in time. Never look back, walk tall, act fine" This is so appropriate. The music moves us along in the story.

The Boys are Back in Town. . . DANG. Talk about a motion inspiring song. "Guess who just got back today?
Them wild-eyed boys that had been away
Haven't changed, haven't much to say
But man, I still think them cats are crazy." Too bad this is one that is sometimes considered a one hit wonder. The Boys are Back in Town. I continue to be stunned that Helgeland put all of this music together in one soundtrack and actually created a movie that was imminently enhanced by his choices. I love it.

We are the Champions. . . I love Queen. I am diminished by the loss of Freddie Mercury. I would have thought that a re-do would be heinous but Robbie Williams does a wonderful job. Granted he has the guitar backing of Brian May. This has got to be a seminal victory song for the generations. What big shoes Mr. Williams had to stand in. Kudos to him for even attempting such an epic job.
