"Croatian instrumental surf rock combo" - the first descriptor that shows up on a Google search - tells most people all they'll ever need to know about this band, I dare say.
Any of "Croatian" "instrumental" and "surf-rock" would be beyond most people's ken, but I confess to a natural weakness to the constituent parts: I have found out enough about Dick Dale, Roy Orbison and The Shadows and their latter-day inheritors (the likes of Chris Isaak, and James Wilsey) to have my mind opened to this sort of thing. And I went on holiday to Croatia last year. Nice place.
If you don't dig instrumental '50s and '60s music I'm guessing you've stopped reading by now anyway. If you're still with me, you should know that this is a really cool, authentic record. It's dripping with reverb and tremolo-drenched Hank Marvin-style guitars, plenty of that F dominant 7th Tex-Mex vibe, judicious use of Mariachi trumpets, and - as the title (and impressive cover-art) implies, it conveys an underlying darkness. It taps into that sordid underbelly of Americana nicely. You fancy these fellows will show up on a Quentin Tarantino soundtrack before long.
Mean time, query where they can go with this from here. Their commercial appeal is surely limited if they insist on sticking rigidly to their current parameters. The right vocalist, for one thing, would add a massive dimension to their sound. I'm guessing these are few and far between though.
