Former Britain's Got Talent starlet Faryl Smith makes her recording debut with "Faryl." While "Faryl" doesn't fall into my normal category of listening, I have to admit that Smith's song choices intrigued me enough to take a chance on her. I was not disappointed. The album opens with a beautiful rendition of "Amazing Grace." From there, Smith sings her way through such beautiful religious songs such as "Ave Maria" and "Calon Lan." She also performs other wonderful songs in … more
"Faryl" is the debut album by British mezzo-soprano Faryl Smith after she rose to fame after her appearance on the second series of "Britain's Got Talent", and signed immediately with Universal after the competition. The album itself features the track "River of Light", a song set to The Blue Danube, for which a promotional music video was recorded. Title: Faryl Artist: Faryl Producer: Jon Cohen Label: Decca Records Parental Advisory: No If You Can Only Buy One Song Make It: Amazing Grace When I received the new self-titled album from British singer Faryl I was not impressed. When she gets some more sophisticated arrangements and matures into more nuance in her renditions her albums will be don't miss events. Faryl Smith (as everyone has mentioned, a contestant on Britain's Got Talent) sings a dozen well known songs with a beautiful clear voice. Faryl's voice gets "five stars" but the selection of songs gets "one star" thus I give this CD an average of three stars. I can't think of any CD that would be better to sing your children to sleep. Beautiful and soothing. If she is given some original material, or something more upbeat and modern, Faryl should have … more
Those of you lamenting the fact that Charlotte Church grew up can console yourselves with another sweet-voiced British youngster called Faryl Smith. Although born in England, with the most English of names, she has some Welsh heritage so, like Charlotte, she has roots in the Land of Song. I like this album very much. I understand the reservations some reviewers have about the heavily orchestrated production, but I think it works very well, if only you are open to it and give … more
