Jagger and Richards go country and pay homage to Hank Williams Sr.

Honky Tonk Woman aka Country Honk was a single written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.  The two originally wanted to record the song as a straightforward country song (they did as Country Honk and the Let it Bleed album).  Richards and company worked on the song whilst new recruit Mick Taylor added some guitar overdubs later on in production.  I really cool and fun song that deals with a drunk guy looking to score some action from a loose bar girl.  My favorite version of this song is the one recorded by The Pogues. The single was released a day after the death of original lead guitarist's Brian Jones and was a Top 40 charter in the UK and the US.

The Pogues recorded a cover version of the song in 1992.  Spider Stacy moved up from tin whistle/ pub tray and background vocals to becoming the band's new front man (replacing Shane MacGowan).  Spider's vocals on The Pogues' single do the song justice with a raucous version of the song that was followed by a music video.  The 1992 single was a minor hit in the UK charted at #56 on the Top 100.
