Enjoying Revisiting This Record

Yes, I am in a 1980's nostalgice mood as I replay this old record. This debut solo release by Don Henley stands as his best recording. Whereas recordings like Building The Perfect Beast and The End Of Innocence certainly have their moments, each of the songs on this I Can't Stand Still are more distinctive.

There are some compelling rock n roll numbers like You Better Hang Up and Them And Us. I really enjoy the lyric on the last one"In forty five minutes, we'll all be done, We'll all be good and crispy, but we'll still be numer one." A real toungue and cheek response to corporate responsibility. And how about the words to Johnny Can't Read coupled with that catchy organ passage.

Outside of the political oriented rockers, there are many other distinctive styles. The album closer, The Unclouded Day is one beautiful calypso flavored tune with stunning vocal harmonies. Talking To The Moon and Long Way Home are very descriptive ballads. I even appreciate the Tin Whistle tones in La Eile.

In short, this was a pleasant trip down memory lane.
