Born on 3/27/24 in Newark, NJ. Jazz singer. Dubbed "The Divine One". Won amateur contest at the Apollo Theatre in 1942. Performed into the 1980's. Won the Lifetime Achievement Grammy in 1989. Died of lung cancer on 4/3/90.
