Early buzz onThe Emancipation of Mimipredicted that this would be the disc to mark "the return of the voice"--the voice being that glass-shattering instrument that propelled Carey to bestselling female artist of all time status--and mostly it is. But … see full wiki
If you get the re-release, get more bang for your buck buying this version. Yeah, even with the other you'll get the bonus tracks of "Don't Forget About Us", "Making it Last", "So Lonely (One and Only pt. 2), and the remix to "We Belong Together." Yet, with this version, you also get a bonus DVD with the music videos for "It's Like That", "We Belong Together", "Shake it Off", and the European single "Get Your Number".
We've all, at this point, read the reviews of Mariah's "E of M" so I'll sum it up as being a great departure from her previous releases. There's something in the tracks that everyone in some way can relate to and connect with, which is why I think the CD has done so well. As for the new tracks, "Don't Forget About Us" is a great song, "Making it Last" is okay, sort of like a continuation (in theme) of "Get Your Number" and it features Jermaine Dupri. "So Lonely" is good, but the version on Twista's CD is much better and still gives Mariah equal spotlight time. The "We Belong Together" remix is okay, but it's nothing close to the level of how good some of her past remixes have been.
A great CD still, wonderful art work with the booklet, decent packaging. This would be a great christmas gift or something to complete your Mariah collection. You won't be disapointed, but get this version that comes with the DVD. It's only a few dollars more than the version without and it's definately worth your money and listening time.
