Sam & Ruby's debut album "The Here And Now" that this is a duo with potential if nothing else. With some slightly better material I think these two can be a singing duo much like Sony & Cher where the vocals blend so well it's scary and the songs catch on. "The Here And Now" is a very enjoy debut album. Trust me, as far as debut's go you can do far worse then this. It has a nice, calm, almost soothing album, that mixes jazz, folk, and pop in ways that are both interesting and pleasant to the ear. …

There is nothing extraordinary or exceptional about the simple melodies and vocals on this CD, but you rarely find artists who can do what Sam & Ruby do, combine lots of average ingredients and come out with something so far above average it pulls at your heart. The art of song writing as poetry is all but lost, but the beauty of the lyrics presented to us by Sam & Ruby restore my hope that this art form is still alive and well. Each song is a story, some of love, some of heartbreak, some of joy …

No matter how many times I listened to this CD I just couldn't get myself to enjoy it enough to play it without being forced. For me the voices of both Sam and Ruby are unremarkable and at times painfully monotone. The only tracks that didn't have me looking for the fast forward button were "Won't Let You Go" and "What Do I Do Now". If they had ventured out to this sound a little more I probably would have liked it enough to add onto my iPod.    I know that this is their first …

Nashville-based duo Sam & Ruby's frosh CD is a mash-up on no less than 4 different music genres that include but not limited to: pop/country/R&B/folk. The two standout cuts from the CD are the 1st song "What Do I Do Now?" that could be a one hit wonder and which is BY FAR the strongest cut on the disc and coming in a distant 2nd would be "Heaven's My Home".    Sam and Ruby have about an equal amount of talent so neither one outshines the other. They each have pleasant, although …

Performance B; Recording Quality C+    There is something to really like about this album. For the person who likes current pop music, Sam and Ruby have fine, likeable voices, and the tunes and lyrics are catchy. Sam's phrasing and comfort within himself are make this a very easy album to listen to, and Ruby has a good range and good control over it. It sounds as though she would have an excellent blues or jazz voice, but in some of the numbers she has an identity problem, electing …

After listening to Sam & Ruby's "The Here and the Now" I have to say that it was just okay. It's easy listening, a mix between country, folk with a dash of acoustics. It's coffee shop music; very light, background music that isn't very distracting but isn't very distinctive, either. With so many artist today relying too much on special effects like auto tune and synthesizers and other tricks to spice up their music, it was nice not hear that on 'The Here and the Now'.    The …
