First off, this is a fine album. One that starts off kicking and screaming and ends melodically. Second, and I rarely ever address other reviewers, but the fellow who compared Chevelle to Incubus and Nickelback is sniffing a little more than his upper lip. With that said, lets continue.
If anything the lead singer, as mentioned in the all-music guide, sounds a bit like Mr. Maynard J.K.. Though, a definite uniqueness separates them, and the musical style is a downright stark difference. I honestly believe Chevelle set out to make an album that would bare all of their trademarks in a fashion in which if they were in a line-up we would know them. Radio playlist perhaps? Maybe the brothers didn't even think of that. The Biggest example would be their inclination to start slow and explode in the end. "This type of thinking could do us In" is truly cool for fans of the Rocking-Out genre.
In a pool known as the world float thousands of drowning bands, only a few will keep their heads above water long enough to have another go-around. The others slip to the floor in a mire of 15-minutes-of-famedom. Chevelle, I believe, will still be jamming this time next year, and this disc will still be gaining rotations in my mix. ~saos~
