Recently Average Joe Entertainment's Corey Smith made his debut at the Riverfront Stage at CMA Fest. While he performed he became a little emotional while performing the song I am about to review. His first single "Twenty-One" acts as an almost autobiographical tale for the new artist. The song starts off with a 17 year old with a fake ID to get into all the bars in town and the tales he used to tell people about who he was. The 17 year old dreams of being the magical age of 21. And his schooling suffers as a result of that. Finally he hits age 21 and it wasn't so magical anymore? You are stuck "in between middle-class and middle-aged" and become just like your father! The song ends with a 43 year old wishing he was still "Twenty-One"!
Corey's latest album "The Broken Record" is set for release on June 21st and if this song says anything about the CD I would say that he will balance his lyrics with his kick ass voice and have a strong debut! I am sure we will be seeing a lot more of Corey in the future!
