Bob Seger Greatest Hits

2 Ratings: 0.5
1994 audio CD release

Bob Seger has racked up a lot of worthy tracks over the years, but it took until 1994 for a greatest hits package to appear. VoilĂ . The bad news: We're missing an awful lot of songs here. Night Moves is Seger's crit-pick album, and a great place to start … see full wiki

Mediocre offering.....I'm holding out for something better.

Here we are in 2010 and Capitol Records has still not gotten around to issuing a complete anthology of one of its top-selling artists of all-time Bob Seger.  Very strange!  The fact of the matter is that Bob Seger placed more than 30 singles on Billboard’sTop Pop Singles chart during the 1970's and early 1980's and sold millions of albums to boot.  Thisere we are in 2010 HeThe 1994 compilation from Capitol is really a misnomer. It contains only 9 of Seger’s charted singles. There's a lot of stuff missing that Capitol has cleverly included on "Greatest Hits Vol. 2".  I am just not interested in purchasing these obsolete collections. It's a new day baby. Most major record companies are issuing "Ultimate Collections" of their most successful and prolific artists.  It is high time that Capitol issued just such a disc for Bob Seger.

There is certainly no problem with the music on "Bob Seger’s Greatest Hits". Not a bad track in the bunch. Several of Bob's biggest hits are here including his 1976 classic "Night Moves", "Still The Same" and "Against The Wind". You'll also find the eternally popular "Old Time Rock and Roll" and an outstanding remake of the Chuck Berry tune "C'est La Vie".  But one cannot help but come away feeling cheated by this collection. The included booklet is OK but nothing special and contains little in the way of biographical information. The remastering job is fine but again at this stage of the game there is really nothing here to recommend "Bob Seger's Greatest Hits ".  I am hoping that the folks at Capitol will correct this oversight in the near future and issue a more impressive 20 track overview of Seger's entire career. In the meantime, I'll simply play my old '45s!

Mediocre offering.....I'm holding out for something better. Mediocre offering.....I'm holding out for something better.
