A pop music masterpiece from Brian Wilson and company.

Pet Sounds is the best disc that the Beach Boys have recorded.  Brian Wilson along with lyricist Tony Asher worked together on bringing this ground breaking album to life.  At the time, Wilson was no longer performing live with the band (replaced by Bruce Johnston).  His main focus was to compose new material and work on the albums.  He worked on most of the material with sessions musicians and the band members were brought in later to add vocal harmonies.  During the recordings, Mike Love would add some lyrics to the songs and he would file a lawsuit  years later to get songwriter credit and back royalties.  The name of the album was Brian's way to pay tribute to his idol Phil Spector.  When the album was released it wasn't that big of a hit.  The record charted at #10 but it failed to reach gold.  But the album was huge in England and it charted there at #2.  One fan of the album was Paul McCartney who would later create Sgt, Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in response to Pet Sounds starting a friendly rivalry between the Beach Boys and The Beatles.  Today, Pet Sounds is considered one of the best pop albums ever made and it solidified Brian Wilson as one of the best pop music composers of the 20th century,

The album is awesome.  Everything from the melodic and whimsical music right down to the vocal harmonies.  My favorite track on the album is "Wouldn't it be Nice".  I really love that song, a melancholy song about wishing  and hoping for a brighter future,  "Sloop John B" is another one that I really like, a traditional song that was reworked Beach Boys style.  "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" another melancholy song about lamenting about being born too late.  These tracks stick out the most but the album in a hole is just classic pop rock.  If you love the Beach Boys or a fan of good music in general then I suggest strongly that you grab a copy of Pet Sounds today,
