Bobby Short, king of the New York cabaret club scene and in-house entertainer at the famous Cafe Carlyle, is in rare form and great voice on this incredible CD.  This features some of his best, most classic standards, ranging from the upbeat "Hooray for Love" and the soulful "Body and Soul".  If ever there is a CD that really showcases his time at the Carlyle, it's this one.  It's so exemplary of what he did there every night, you'll expect a waiter to ask for your drink order.

Celebrating 30 Years at the Cafe Carlyle

Awesome! I love the Cafe Caryle... even when I can't afford it. This sounds like a great way to listen to something evocative of old-school New York in my San Francisco apartment.

About this album

Wiki

After four decades of performing, Bobby Short's elegant and articulate style has not diminished. His urbane flair on vocals and piano, supported by a ten-piece orchestra, infuses new brilliance into Cole Porter gems such as "At Long Last Love" and "Just One of Those Things."
